I prefer using basil but the original recipe stated parsley so I left it here for you to choose. Try adding some sliced black olives, fried or marinated mushrooms or sun blush tomatoes at the end.

1/2 cup garlic (minced)
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup chopped basil or 1/2 cup parsley
grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • To make spaghetti sauce, cook garlic in butter and olive oil over medium low heat just until the garlic is soft but not browned.
  • Stir in the parsley or basil and cook for 2 minutes (stirring constantly) until the herbs are limp but still green.
  • Pour sauce hot over cooked spaghetti, toss lightly to coat and top with parmesan cheese.

3 slices bacon, diced
2 pounds lean ground beef
2 ⅓ cups chopped onion
½ cup red wine
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon minced garlic
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
2 (16 ounce) cans tomato sauce
¼ teaspoon hot pepper sauce (e.g. Tabasco™), or to taste

Steps:

  • Cook the bacon in a heavy, 5 quart pot over medium-high heat until the grease begins to render out, about 3 minutes. Stir in the ground beef and onions. Cook and stir until the beef is crumbly, and beginning to brown, about 10 minutes. Pour in the wine, and season with salt, basil, oregano, garlic, and pepper. Simmer uncovered until most of the wine has evaporated, about 10 minutes.

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 whole head garlic, peeled and chopped
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
½ cup chopped fresh basil leaves, or to taste
1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
¾ cup Merlot wine
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons dried oregano
¼ cup white sugar

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat, and cook and stir the onion and garlic until translucent but not browned, 6 to 7 minutes. Stir in the mushrooms and basil, and cook and stir until the basil is wilted and the mushrooms are cooked through and have given up their juices, about 10 minutes.
  • Pour in the whole peeled tomatoes, and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring and chopping the tomatoes into pieces with a spoon. Pour in the tomato sauce and stir, crushing any large pieces of tomato left, and bring to a simmer. Let the sauce simmer until slightly thickened and bubbling, stirring occasionally, about 15 minutes.
  • Stir the tomato paste into the sauce, and fill the empty tomato paste can with Merlot wine, stirring to dissolve any remaining tomato paste in the can. Pour the Merlot wine into the sauce, and stir well to combine. Bring the sauce back to a simmer, and stir in the salt, pepper, dried oregano, and sugar. Let the sauce simmer until the seasonings are blended and the sauce is heated through, about 3 more minutes.

Salt & pepper, to taste
1 can (10 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
1 can (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 lg. bay leaf
1 pkg dry French's spaghetti sauce mix
1 beef bouillon cube

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef with onions & green pepper; drain.
  • Mix in salt, pepper, cream of mushroom soup, tomato sauce, bay leaf, French's spaghetti sauce mix, and beef bouillon cube. Stir until well blended.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Cook on top of stove about 1 hour.
  • Remove from heat, Remove and discard bay leaf and put sauce on cooked spaghetti on dinner plate. Parmesan cheese is optional.

1 tablespoon olive oil
3 medium onions, chopped
1 small green pepper, chopped

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
