Tips

- To make the sauce thicker, use a double boiler or simmer the sauce over low heat for a longer period of time. - If you don't have a candy thermometer, you can check to see if the sauce is done by dropping a small amount into a bowl of cold water. If the sauce forms a soft ball, it is done. - For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate or semisweet chocolate instead of milk chocolate. - If you want a sauce with a more pronounced caramel flavor, use brown sugar instead of white sugar. - Stir in a teaspoon of vanilla extract or rum extract for extra flavor. - You can also add a tablespoon or two of chopped nuts or dried fruit to the sauce for a crunchy texture. - Serve the sauce warm over ice cream, pudding, or cake. - Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
