Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed Cheddar cheese soup
2 cups half-and-half cream
2 tablespoons herb and garlic flavored cream cheese spread
2 tablespoons dehydrated onion flakes
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 tablespoons mustard powder
1 tablespoon chicken bouillon granules
salt and pepper to taste
6 large baking potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 stalks celery, thinly sliced
1 ½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees F).

  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish, and layer 1/3 of the potato slices over the bottom so that they overlap slightly. Sprinkle half of the garlic and celery over this layer. Repeat layers ending with potatoes on top. Pour the cheese soup mixture evenly over the whole dish. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.

Tips:

  • Select the right potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes are ideal for scalloped potatoes, as they hold their shape well and have a creamy texture.
  • Slice the potatoes evenly: This will ensure that they cook evenly.
  • Use a good quality cheese: Sharp cheddar, Gruyère, or Parmesan cheese will all work well.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking dish: The potatoes should be in a single layer so that they can cook evenly.
  • Bake the potatoes until they are tender: This will usually take about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Let the potatoes rest before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld and the potatoes to firm up slightly.

Conclusion:

Scalloped potatoes are a classic comfort food that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With a few simple tips, you can make sure that your scalloped potatoes turn out perfect every time. So next time you're looking for a delicious and hearty side dish, give scalloped potatoes a try!
