Tips:
- To ensure the tastiest and most flavorful beef filling, use a combination of ground beef and ground pork. This blend of meats adds depth and richness to the filling.
- Don't overcrowd the skillet when browning the beef and pork mixture. Overcrowding will prevent the meat from browning properly and result in a soggy filling.
- For a crispy and flaky crust, use a combination of butter and shortening in the pie dough. Butter adds flavor, while shortening helps create a flaky texture.
- To prevent the bottom crust from becoming soggy, pre-bake it for 10 minutes before filling and baking the entire pie.
- Brush the edges of the pie crust with an egg wash before baking. This will help the crust brown beautifully and give it a shiny finish.
- Allow the pie to cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving. This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld together.
Conclusion:
Grandma's Ground Beef Pie is a classic comfort food dish bursting with flavor and sure to please the whole family. With its combination of savory ground beef and pork filling, flaky crust, and rich gravy, this pie is a hearty and satisfying meal.
