Time 35m

Yield 6 burgers, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 lbs 90% lean ground beef
1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
1/2 cup tomatoes, chopped
2 tablespoons red onions, chopped
2 tablespoons ripe olives, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
6 whole gyro style pita bread (6 inches)
6 lettuce leaves
6 slices tomatoes
1 small seedless cucumber, sliced
1/3 cup cucumber ranch salad dressing

Steps:

  • Shape beef evenly into 12 patties.
  • In a small bowl, combine the feta cheese, chopped tomato, onion, olives, oil and oregano.
  • Top six of the patties with the cheese mixture and then cover with remaining patties and firmly press edges to seal. Sprinkle with salt and pepper for seasoning.
  • Grill patties, covered over medium hot heat for 6-8 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer reads 160F and juices are clear.
  • Serve each burger on a pita with lettuce, sliced tomato, cucumber and cucumber ranch dressing.

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of ground beef. A blend of 80% lean and 20% fat is ideal for juicy, flavorful burgers.
  • Season the beef well. A simple combination of salt, pepper, and garlic powder is a good starting point. You can also add other herbs and spices to taste, such as onion powder, paprika, or chili powder.
  • Handle the beef gently. Overworking the beef will make it tough. Mix the ingredients together just until they are combined.
  • Form the burgers into patties. Make sure the patties are uniform in size and thickness so that they cook evenly. A meat baller can aid in obtaining uniform patties.
  • Stuff the burgers. Place a small amount of filling in the center of each patty. Fold the patty over the filling and seal the edges to enclose it. Ensure that the filling is evenly distributed and the patties are sealed properly to prevent leaking during cooking.
  • Cook the burgers. You can cook the burgers in a skillet, on a grill, or in the oven. Cook the burgers over medium heat until they are cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the internal temperature of the burgers has reached at least 160°F (71°C).

Conclusion:

Greek stuffed hamburgers are a delicious and flavorful twist on the classic hamburger. By following these tips, you can make perfect Greek stuffed hamburgers that your family and friends will love. These juicy, flavorful burgers are perfect for a summer cookout or a casual weeknight meal. Experiment with different fillings and toppings to create your own unique Greek stuffed hamburgers.
