Tips:

  • Choose fresh, tender green beans: Look for beans that are bright green and snap easily when you bend them.
  • Trim the green beans: Remove the ends of the beans, and any strings that may be present.
  • Blanch the green beans: This step is optional, but it helps to preserve the color and crispness of the beans. To blanch the beans, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the beans and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they are bright green. Immediately remove the beans from the boiling water and place them in a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Cook the ham: You can use leftover ham, or cook fresh ham for this recipe. To cook fresh ham, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the ham in a baking dish and bake for 30 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Sauté the garlic: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Add the green beans and ham to the skillet: Once the garlic is fragrant, add the green beans and ham to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the green beans are heated through.
  • Season to taste: Add salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings to taste.

Conclusion:

Green beans with garlic and ham is a quick, easy, and delicious side dish that is perfect for any occasion. The salty ham and fragrant garlic complement the sweetness of the green beans, making for a flavorful and satisfying dish. This recipe is also very versatile, so you can easily adjust it to your liking. For example, you can add other vegetables, such as onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms. You can also use different types of ham, such as smoked ham or prosciutto. No matter how you choose to make it, green beans with garlic and ham is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
