As a variation, the old-timers in my family cut up some boiled potatoes on dinner plates, then serve the warm salad mixture on top. -Robert Enigk, Canastota, New York

GREEN BEANS WITH WARM BACON DRESSING

Green Beans With Warm Bacon Dressing image

Found in the November 2008 Woman's Day magazine and thought that DBF Steve would like it as he loves green beans with vinegar. I was right! He loves it and has requested it again and again so I'm posting it here for safe keeping. Note: I am listing the recipe as it was in the magazine, but when I make it I have used a 2 pound package of frozen green beans and cook them in those new Ziploc steamer bags (from frozen) for about 5-6 minutes. I also chop the bacon before frying it.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh green beans. Look for beans that are bright green and crisp. Avoid beans that are wilted or have brown spots.
  • Trim the green beans. Remove the ends of the beans and any strings. You can use a sharp knife or a kitchen shears to do this.
  • Cook the green beans properly. Green beans can be cooked in a variety of ways, but the most popular methods are boiling, steaming, and roasting. Boiling is the quickest method, but it can make the beans mushy. Steaming is a more gentle cooking method that preserves the beans' nutrients and flavor. Roasting is a great way to get crispy, flavorful beans.
  • Make the warm bacon dressing ahead of time. This dressing can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator. When you're ready to serve the green beans, simply reheat the dressing in the microwave or on the stovetop.
  • Serve the green beans immediately. Green beans are best served hot or warm. They can be served as a side dish or as a main course.

Conclusion:

Green beans with warm bacon dressing is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. The beans are cooked to perfection and the bacon dressing is rich and flavorful. This dish is sure to please everyone at your table.
