GRILLED APPLES

Grilled Apples image

Grilling can turn an apple into a savory side dish. For a great dessert idea, see my note below or try Recipe #329631. Works with pears, too. Great ideas I found in The Houston Chronicle. Enjoy!!!

Provided by Mrs.Jack

Categories     Dessert

Time 15m

Yield 2 apple halves, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 apple, halved and cored
1/8 teaspoon olive oil (or Pam cooking spray)
1/8 teaspoon salt (just a pinch)
1/8 teaspoon pepper (just a pinch)
1 ounce grated cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Halve and core the apples, then either brush them with olive oil or spritz with Pam.
  • Dust the halves with salt and pepper, then place cut-side down over direct heat on a hot grill. Cook with the grill covered. After about 3 to 5 minutes, the apples should have pronounced grill marks on their cut sides.
  • Use tongs to flip the apples and reduce the heat under them to low or move to cooler part of grill. Close the grill and cook until the apples are just tender, about another 3 to 5 minutes.
  • To serve, sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over the apples and offer as a side to pork, chicken or steak.
  • Note: if you want a sweet option, sprinkle with cinnamon and/or nutmeg, grill about 3 minutes. Turn over, sprinkle with sugar or brown sugar, raisins and/or coconut, close and cook until tender, about another 3 minutes. Top w/ vanilla or cinnamon ice cream!

GRILLED CHEESE WITH BACON AND APPLES

Grilled Cheese With Bacon and Apples image

I got this recipe off of Tyler Florence Ultimate. It was such a weird combo and I was in the mood for grilled cheese, so I tried it. WOW - I'll never have a plain old grilled cheese sandwich again! I'm adding some tweaks in his original recipe - this is how I made it. Bacon can be cooked in the oven or a skillet, I just prefer the oven so I used that.

Provided by lazy gourmet

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 40m

Yield 4 sandwiches, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 slices thick white bread, bakery preferred not processed
12 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, thickly sliced
3 tablespoons butter or 3 tablespoons margarine
12 slices bacon
1/2 green apple, thinly sliced (no need to peel)
Dijon mustard

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line baking sheet with foil and arrange bacon slices. They can be touching but make sure they do not overlap.
  • Bake 15-25 minutes depending on your desired tastes - I like my bacon extra crispy so I went the full 25. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Heat large skillet over medium heat.
  • Assemble sandwich; generously spread Dijon on 4 slices of bread. Top with slices of cheddar, 3 pieces of bacon, apple slices and additional cheddar. Place the remaining bread on top and spread with butter.
  • Place on skillet buttered side down and butter the remaining side. Cook until cheese starts to melt and bread is browned, about 4 minutes. Flip the sandwich and continue to cook until cheese is melted and bread is golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.

GRILLED (BAKED) APPLES

Grilled (Baked) Apples image

Make and share this Grilled (Baked) Apples recipe from Food.com.

Provided by nnreq

Categories     Dessert

Time 15m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 granny smith apple, cored
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Fill the core of the apple with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Wrap the apple in a large piece of heavy duty foil, twisting the extra foil into a tail for a handle.
  • Place the apple in the coals of a campfire or barbecue and let cook 5 to 10 minutes, until softened.
  • Remove and unwrap, being careful of the hot sugar.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Firm, tart apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn hold their shape well and develop a delicious caramelized exterior when grilled.
  • Prepare the apples: Core and slice the apples into 1/2-inch thick rounds or wedges. You can also peel the apples, but this is not necessary.
  • Brush with oil or butter: This will help the apples caramelize and prevent them from sticking to the grill.
  • Season the apples: Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon, sugar, or other desired seasonings before grilling.
  • Grill the apples: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the apples for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are tender and slightly charred.
  • Serve immediately: Grilled apples can be served on their own, with a dollop of yogurt or ice cream, or as a topping for oatmeal, pancakes, or waffles.

Conclusion:

Grilled apples are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are a great way to use up leftover apples, and they can also be made ahead of time and reheated. Whether you are looking for a healthy snack or a sweet dessert, grilled apples are a great option.
