Tips:
- Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all your ingredients prepped and measured. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling during the cooking process.
- Cook Pasta Al Dente: Test the pasta for doneness a few minutes before the recommended cooking time. It should be slightly firm to the bite, not mushy. This will ensure that the pasta doesn't overcook and become soggy.
- Save Pasta Water: Don't pour out all the pasta water! Reserve about 1/2 cup of the starchy cooking water before draining the pasta. This water can be added to the sauce to help it thicken and create a creamy consistency.
- Salt the Pasta Water: Be generous with the salt when cooking the pasta. The pasta water should taste like the ocean. This will help the pasta absorb flavor as it cooks.
- Use Fresh Herbs: Fresh herbs like basil, thyme, and oregano add a burst of flavor to the pasta. Chop them finely and add them to the sauce towards the end of cooking to preserve their delicate flavor.
- Add Vegetables: To make the pasta more nutritious, add some chopped vegetables to the sauce. Broccoli, zucchini, mushrooms, and bell peppers are all great options.
- Garnish with Cheese: A sprinkling of grated Parmesan or pecorino cheese just before serving adds a touch of richness and saltiness to the pasta.
