Yield Makes 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 cups water
1 1/2 cups long-grain brown rice
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon coarsely chopped flat-leaf parsley
2 teaspoons coarsely chopped cilantro

Steps:

  • In a 2-quart heavy saucepan bring 4 cups water, seasoned with salt and pepper, to a boil. Stir in rice; cook, covered, over moderately low heat until water is completely absorbed, about 40 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat; fluff with a fork. Stir in chopped parsley and cilantro. Taste and adjust for seasoning. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Choose the right rice. Short-grain brown rice is the best choice for this recipe, as it has a slightly sticky texture that will help the herbs and spices adhere to the rice.
  • Rinse the rice before cooking. This will help remove any dirt or debris from the rice.
  • Use a flavorful broth. Chicken broth or vegetable broth will add extra flavor to the rice.
  • Add plenty of herbs and spices. This is what will give the rice its delicious flavor. Be generous with the herbs and spices, and don't be afraid to experiment with different combinations.
  • Cook the rice according to the package directions. Be sure to not overcook the rice, as this will make it mushy.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork before serving. This will help separate the grains of rice and make it light and fluffy.

Conclusion:

Herbed brown rice is a delicious and versatile side dish that can be served with a variety of meals. It's a great way to add extra flavor and nutrition to your meals. This recipe is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a healthy and flavorful side dish, give herbed brown rice a try.
