HERBED PIZZA DOUGH

This is a simple pizza dough and it doesn't take all day either. The only appliance I used was my stand mixer with the dough hook!

Categories     Breads

Time 58m

Yield 4 slices, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 cups flour
1 1/4 cups warm water
1 tablespoon olive oil (herbed, use a good quality EVOO)
1 teaspoon fast rising yeast (bread machine yeast also works here)
1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon rosemary
1 teaspoon parmesan cheese, finely grated

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to roughly 150 degrees. Just enough to make it warm enough to cause the dough to rise well. Then turn your oven off as soon as it heats up.
  • Add all the above ingredients in the order above into your stand mixing bowl. Mix using a dough hook until it forms a ball. Place it in an oiled bowl and cover with a cloth. Place in the warm oven for about 30 minutes or until the dough doubles in size.
  • When dough has doubled, preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  • Roll out the dough in desired shape. You may need to flour your surface and rolling pin to prevent sticking. I usually just sprinkle my baking sheet (or stone) with corn meal and garlic salt and just press out my dough.
  • Add your favorite toppings and bake for approximately 15-18 minutes depending on the size of pizza you're making. Should just be bubbly.
  • Enjoy with freshly grated parmesan cheese.

1 tablespoon chopped sun-dried tomato

HERBED PIZZA DOUGH

Categories     Herb     Bake

Yield Two 15 inch pizzas

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup warm water (between 100 and 115 degrees)
1 package active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus 1 teaspoon
1/4 cup chopped sage leaves

Steps:

  • Bloom the yeast in the warm water to ensure it is active. (The mixture should become bubbly at the surface and smell fragrantly "yeasty" within five to ten minutes.) Combine yeast mixture with the remaining dough ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer with a dough hook attached. Mix on medium low speed for at least 10 minutes until the dough forms a somewhat dry mass around the dough hook. If the dough is too sticky to the touch, add flour by heaping tablespoons until the dough is more dry. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead by hand for one minute. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of olive oil into a glass bowl. Form the dough into a ball and roll to coat in the olive oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise at room temperature until double in size, at least one hour. Punch the dough down and cut in half, wrapping one half in plastic wrap to freeze for later use if not making two pizzas.

QUICK HERBED PIZZA DOUGH

Quick Herbed Pizza Dough image

A quick, simple and very aromatic pizza dough with a blend of Italian herbs. Makes a great, authentic pizza! (Serving Size = 1 family size pizza)

Provided by Deux Petits Chefs

Categories     Breads

Time 40m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons dried yeast
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon masterfood's mixed Italian herbs (1/4 tsp rosemary, 1/4 tsp thyme, 1/4 tsp oregano, 1/4 tsp basil, pinch of chopped parley)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 cup warm water

Steps:

  • Sift flour into a large mixing bowl, create a well in the middle.
  • Add dried yeast, olive oil, sugar, salt.
  • Add warm water.
  • Knead for 3 min, adding a small splash of water as needed to incorporate all the flour. If too sticky, dust lightly over with flour and keep kneading. Add Italian herbs.
  • Knead for another 5 - 7 min, or until dough is elastic.
  • Cover with plastic wrap, layer over a warm, damp towel and set for at least 30 min in a warm area for dough to rise.
  • (Tip: If you live in a cold climate, set a pot of water to boil on high heat, and set the covered bowl near it to warm it up. Don't put it too close, just enough for the bowl to heat and warm up. Too hot and the yeast will get killed!).
  • When dough has risen, punch down, lightly use tips of fingers to pull out dough, dust a bit of flour over and then knead lightly until dough is round and smooth.

Tips:

  • Use active dry yeast: Make sure the yeast is fresh and active before using it. If you're unsure, test it by dissolving it in warm water with a pinch of sugar. If it bubbles and foams within 5-10 minutes, it's good to use.
  • Proof the yeast: Proofing the yeast helps to activate it and ensure that it's working properly. To proof the yeast, dissolve it in warm water with a pinch of sugar and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until it bubbles and foams.
  • Use the right amount of salt: Salt is essential for flavor, but too much salt can make the dough tough. Be sure to measure the salt carefully and add it to the dough gradually.
  • Knead the dough properly: Kneading the dough helps to develop the gluten, which gives the dough its structure and elasticity. Knead the dough for at least 5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place: The dough needs time to rise in order to develop its full flavor and texture. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven: Before baking the pizza, preheat the oven to the highest temperature possible. This will help to create a crispy crust.
  • Use a pizza stone or baking sheet: A pizza stone or baking sheet will help to conduct heat evenly and prevent the bottom of the pizza from burning. If you don't have a pizza stone or baking sheet, you can use a regular baking pan.

Conclusion:

Herbed pizza dough is a delicious and versatile dough that can be used to make a variety of pizzas. Whether you're looking for a classic cheese pizza or something more creative, herbed pizza dough is a great option. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make a delicious and satisfying pizza that everyone will enjoy.
