Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 Tbsp minced red onion
1 1/2 Tbsp minced baby carrot
2 tsp canola oil
3/4 tsp thyme
3/4 c instant brown rice
1 1/4 c chicken broth
TIP: Store leftovers in refrigerator for up to 3 days to use for other recipes.

Steps:

  • 1. In a saucepan, combine onion, carrot, oil, thyme, and salt to taste. Cook, stirrin, over medium heat until sizzling, about 2 minutes. Add rice. Stir to coat with seasonings. Add broth. Bring to boil. Reduce heat and cover so mixture just simmers. Cook for 12 minutes. 2. Remove from heat and set aside for 5 minutes. Fluff with fork.

Tips:

  • Mise en place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and equipment ready to go. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling.
  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the quality of your ingredients, the better your pilaf will taste. Look for fresh, flavorful vegetables and herbs, and use high-quality rice.
  • Rinse the rice: Rinsing the rice before cooking helps to remove excess starch, which can make the pilaf gummy. Be sure to rinse the rice thoroughly until the water runs clear.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot: A heavy-bottomed pot will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the rice from burning.
  • Cook the pilaf over low heat: Cooking the pilaf over low heat will help to prevent the rice from becoming overcooked and mushy.
  • Don't stir the pilaf too much: Stirring the pilaf too much can break up the rice and make it mushy. Stir it gently once or twice during the cooking process.
  • Let the pilaf rest before serving: Letting the pilaf rest for a few minutes before serving allows the flavors to meld and the rice to absorb any remaining liquid.

Conclusion:

Herbed rice pilaf is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served with a variety of main courses. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy side dish, give herbed rice pilaf a try.
