Homemade Maple Syrup, Old Fashioned image

My mother in law gave this recipe to me, it was out of an old cookbook, it tastes wonderful and the kids love it.

Yield 1 large bottle

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 cups white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 cups water
1 1/2 teaspoons butter flavoring
1 1/2 teaspoons burnt sugar flavoring
1 1/2 teaspoons maple flavoring

Steps:

  • Place all but maple flavoring in a medium saucepan, start to cook over medium heat but, turn temperature down just when it reaches a boil.
  • Simmer just 10 minutes and remove from heat.
  • Cool slightly and add maple flavoring.
  • Once cool enough, place in an old syrup bottle, Mrs.
  • Butterworths size works really well.

HOMEMADE "MRS. BUTTERWORTH'S" SYRUP RECIPE

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup water
1 tsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp rum flavoring
1 tsp vanilla extract
pinch of salt

Steps:

  • Put the brown sugar & salt into a medium saucepan. Place the cornstarch in a small bowl or cup and drizzle with about 2 tbs. of water. Stir or whisk with a fork until the cornstarch is dissolved, then add it to the saucepan along with the rest of the water. Stir or whisk constantly over medium-high heat, until the mixture comes to a boil. Boil one minute, still stirring. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and let the syrup cool completely. When it's cool, stir in the extracts.
