Time 1h

Yield 10 to 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

One 10-ounce package sliced country ham, such as Smithfield
Two 8-ounce blocks cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup shredded extra-sharp Cheddar
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 large shallot, grated (about 1/3 cup)
Freshly ground black pepper
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Butter crackers, corn tortilla chips (not too thin) and sliced celery, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Place the ham slices on a microwave-safe dish lined with paper towels. Cover the ham with a damp paper towel and microwave on low heat until the ham is slightly crisp on the edges and the fat is absorbed in the paper towels, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Remove the ham from the microwave and discard the paper towels. Using two forks, shred the ham into small bite-size pieces. Place the ham into a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the cream cheese, Cheddar, sour cream, garlic powder, shallot and 1 teaspoon black pepper to the mixing bowl and stir to combine. Spread the ham and cheese mixture into a 9-inch pie plate. Set aside.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the pecans, butter and Worcestershire sauce. Sprinkle the seasoned pecans over the ham and cheese dip.
  • Bake the dip until hot and bubbly around the edges, 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm with butter crackers, corn tortilla and celery.

INDIANA HOT HAM DIP

Indiana Hot Ham Dip image

This is a weird Southern Indiana dip that I have learned is best when PRETZEL STICKS are dipped into it! I know it sounds odd, but it truly is addictive! It's kid-friendly too--my 6 year old son will sit with me for HOURS on the couch, just dipping pretzels into this stuff and eating! It also has a strange hold on grown men in Indiana who drink lots of beer while watching sports. They literally whine like girls if they don't have it when the Super Bowl begins...LOL! It's surprisingly delicious and addictive. :)

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality, flavorful ingredients to ensure the dip is packed with flavor. Fresh herbs, spicy peppers, and sharp cheeses can all elevate the taste of the dip.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different flavor combinations. Sweet and spicy, tangy and creamy, and smoky and savory are all popular flavor profiles that can be explored in a country ham dip.
  • If the dip is too thick, add a little milk or cream to thin it out. If it's too thin, add more cheese or bread crumbs to thicken it up.
  • Serve the dip with a variety of dippers, such as crackers, chips, vegetables, or bread slices. This will allow your guests to customize their snacking experience.
  • For a party-perfect presentation, garnish the dip with fresh herbs, chopped nuts, or crumbled bacon.

Country ham dip is a versatile and delicious appetizer that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether you're hosting a party or just looking for a quick and easy snack, this dip is sure to please. With its creamy texture, smoky flavor, and variety of customizable options, country ham dip is a must-try for any dip lover.
