HOT DOG NOODLE CASSEROLE

Spinach, egg noodles and a creamy hot dog mixture is topped with peas and crumbled bacon. What a casserole! This is a recipe I received in German class 24 years ago. It looks unusual, but it is very delicious. I don't know where the teacher found the recipe. Drop biscuits go well with this casserole.

Time 33m

Yield 1 pan

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (1 lb) package hot dog
1 large white onion (chopped)
1/2 cup butter
2 (10 1/2 ounce) cans tomato soup
1 (12 ounce) bag egg noodles
1 1/2 cups milk
salt
pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Melt butter in large pot.
  • Add onions and sauté for about 1 minute on medium heat.
  • Add chopped hot dogs and sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add 2 cans of tomato soup and of milk.
  • Add egg noodles and mix well.
  • Cover and let simmer until egg noodles are tender.
  • Add cheddar cheese and cover and let cheese melt.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of hot dogs: Different hot dogs can add different flavors and textures to your casserole. Try using a combination of beef, pork, and turkey hot dogs, or even some spicy or smoked varieties.
  • Don't overcook the noodles: The noodles should be cooked al dente, or slightly firm to the bite. Overcooked noodles will become mushy and ruin the texture of your casserole.
  • Use a creamy sauce: A creamy sauce will help to bind all of the ingredients together and make your casserole more flavorful. You can use a simple white sauce made with milk and flour, or you can try a more flavorful sauce made with cheese, sour cream, or cream of mushroom soup.
  • Add some vegetables: Vegetables will add some color and nutrition to your casserole. Try adding some chopped onions, peppers, or corn. You can also use frozen vegetables, which are just as easy to use and just as nutritious.
  • Top with cheese: Cheese is the perfect finishing touch for a hot dog noodle casserole. It will add a gooey, melted layer that everyone will love. You can use any type of cheese that you like, but cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan are all popular choices.

Conclusion:

Hot dog noodle casserole is a quick, easy, and delicious meal that is perfect for a busy weeknight. It is also a great way to use up leftover hot dogs. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a hot dog noodle casserole that the whole family will enjoy.
