THE BEST HAM SANDWICHES EVER

The Best Ham Sandwiches Ever image

This recipe was given to me by my mom and I made them the first time for a football party. Everyone liked them so much that I ended up making more that day. Now they are what I have to take everywhere. They are wonderful, easy to make, and are loved by everyone. You can't go wrong!

Time 30m

Yield 24 small sandwiches, 8-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 -12 packages of sweet hawaiian rolls (the small dinner roll looking ones)
1 1/2 lbs of virginia ham (NOT honey ham)
12 slices swiss cheese
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons dried onion
poppy seed

Steps:

  • You will need two 9 x 13 pans. Place the bottoms of 12 rolls in each pan. Place ham (about 2 shaved slices or so) on the rolls. Cut the cheese slices into 4 parts and place 2 small pieces on each sandwich. Put the dinner roll tops on. In a sauce pan, mix butter, dijon mustard, worcestershire sauce, and dried onions. Wait until all butter is melted and then pour the melted mixture over the ham sandwiches (I know it sounds weird but TRUST me). Sprinkle the buns with poppy seeds and cover with foil. Let refrigerate overnight (If not able to wait, it is okay. They still taste great if made right away). Preheat oven to 350 and uncover sandwiches. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes and serve. They are great hot and even at room temperature Enjoy!
  • *I have made these with turkey also and they are good. Not as great as the ham, but they are good.

HOT DOG MUMMIES

Hot Dog Mummies image

Made with store-bought crescent dough, these mummy dogs will be a hit at dinner or a Halloween party. The dough is very forgiving and easy to wrap, and the best part is it doesn't need to be perfect-these are ancient mummies after all.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 30m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

One 8-ounce tube crescent dough
8 bun-length hot dogs
1 slice white American cheese
Ketchup and/or mustard

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Open the crescent dough tube and unroll the dough onto a work surface. Pinch together the seams to create a rectangle. Cut the dough lengthwise into 8 long strips.
  • Take 1 hot dog and 1 strip of the dough and wind the dough around the hot dog while pulling gently to stretch the dough. Crisscross the dough every so often so it looks like mummy wrappings. Near the end of the hot dog, leave a narrow strip of hot dog exposed so you can add eyes after baking. Place the wrapped dog on the prepared baking sheet and repeat with remaining dough and hot dogs. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
  • While hot dogs bake, use the narrow end of a wide piping tip to punch out 16 small rounds of cheese for the mummies' eyes.
  • Remove the hot dogs from oven. Using a toothpick, smear some ketchup on one side of each cheese round and "glue" it to the open area of the hot dog to create 2 eyes. Using the same toothpick, put a dab of ketchup or mustard in the center of each eye to create a pupil.

CHICAGO-STYLE HOT DOGS

Chicago-Style Hot Dogs image

Often described as "dragged through the garden" - referring to all of the vegetable toppings - this hot dog is a joy to eat in honor of the Windy City. A proper Chicago dog is an all-beef frankfurter (such as Vienna Beef) in a poppy seed bun, topped with yellow mustard, neon-green sweet pickle relish, chopped white onion, tomato slices, a dill pickle spear, pickled sport peppers and celery salt. This stovetop recipe is very forgiving, and there are ways to adapt: No poppy seed buns? Just sprinkle a pinch of loose poppy seeds over regular hot dog buns slathered in melted butter. No neon-green sweet relish? Stir a drop or two of green food coloring into regular sweet relish. If you can't find Chicago-style sport peppers, then sliced pepperoncini works in a pinch. Don't skip the celery salt; its herbal lightness makes these dogs shine.

Time 15m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 split poppy seed hot dog buns
4 all-beef hot dogs, preferably bun-length
Yellow mustard
1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
1 small white onion, small-diced
1 small tomato, halved and thickly sliced lengthwise
4 dill pickle spears
4 to 8 sport peppers
Celery salt

Steps:

  • In a large skillet over medium, melt 2 tablespoons butter. Without splitting them in half completely, gently flatten the hot dog buns and place them seam-side up in the pan. Move them around to catch all the melted butter and cook until very lightly toasted at the edges, 1 to 3 minutes. Remove the buns and set aside.
  • Raise the heat to medium-high and add the remaining 2 tablespoons butter to the pan. When the butter is melted, add the hot dogs and cook, rolling occasionally until all sides are browned and looking crispy, 3 to 5 minutes. (See Tip if grilling.)
  • Place the cooked dogs in the buns and top each with as much yellow mustard, relish and onion as you like. On one side of each dog, place a couple of tomato slices; on the other side, place a single pickle spear. Top with as many sport peppers as you can handle. Generously season with the celery salt and serve immediately.

HOT HAMMIES RECIPE

Hot Hammies Recipe image

Provided by á-8235

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup butter softened
3 tablespoons poppy seeds
1 tablespoon worcestershire
2 tablespoons prepared dijon-style mustard
2 (12 ounce) white party rolls or hawaiian rolls
1/2 pound shredded ham
5 ounces swiss cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together, butter, poppy seeds, worcestershire, dijon mustard. Slice rolls in half and spread bottoms and tops with butter mixture. Top each roll with ham and swiss. Arrange rolls in a single layer in a medium baking dish. Bake (covered so tops of rolls don't get too browned) for 10 to 12 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: Opt for a fully cooked ham that is at least 5 pounds to ensure it can feed your guests. For best results, choose a bone-in ham, as it tends to be more flavorful than a boneless ham.
  • Prepare the ham properly: Remove the ham from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature. This will help it cook more evenly and prevent it from drying out.
  • Use a cooking bag: Cooking the ham in a cooking bag helps to keep it moist and juicy. If you don't have a cooking bag, you can wrap the ham in aluminum foil.
  • Glaze the ham: For a sweet and sticky glaze, mix together brown sugar, honey, and Dijon mustard. Brush the glaze over the ham during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Let the ham rest: After cooking, let the ham rest for 15 minutes before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

With its smoky flavor and juicy texture, ham is a classic holiday dish that is sure to please your guests. By following these simple tips, you can cook a ham that is both delicious and impressive. Whether you are serving it for a special occasion or a casual family meal, a perfectly cooked ham is a dish that everyone will enjoy.
