GINGER SALAD DRESSING

Ginger Salad Dressing image

Love ginger? You'll love this homemade salad dressing recipe! It's full of fresh ginger flavor, balanced by a touch of maple syrup and apple cider vinegar. Recipe yields 3/4 cup dressing.

Provided by Cookie and Kate

Categories     Salad Dressing

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 7

½ cup extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, to taste
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey, to taste
2 teaspoons finely grated fresh ginger
½ teaspoon fine sea salt
About 20 twists of freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a jar or small bowl, whisk together all of the ingredients until fully blended. Sometimes, if your mustard is cold, it will need a few minutes to warm up before it fully incorporates.
  • Taste, and adjust if necessary-for more tartness, add another teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, or for more sweetness/balance, add another teaspoon or two of maple syrup (I usually add one).
  • This salad dressing will keep well in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. Real olive oil can solidify slightly when cold; if that happens, simple let it warm to room temperature for a few minutes or microwave it in a microwave-safe jar for no more than 15 to 30 seconds.

HOMEMADE JAPANESE STEAK HOUSE GINGER SALAD DRESSING

Homemade Japanese Steak House Ginger Salad Dressing image

I love the ginger dressing served on the salad at Japananese steak houses, and this recipe comes as close to it as any others I've tried. This recipe makes a lot....But it keeps well in the refrigerator or share with friends and family. If your food processor won't handle the entire recipe, divide the ingredients in half and blend each half separately.

Time 15m

Yield 2 quarts

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 ounces gingerroot (about 1/2 cup)
1 medium onion, cut into quarters
3 cups vegetable oil
1 cup vinegar (I use red wine vinegar)
1 3/4 cups soy sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons tomato paste
1/4 lemon, juiced
1 garlic clove
1 3/4 cups water

Steps:

  • Soak the ginger root in cold water for a few minutes to make it easier to remove the outer skin. Carefully peel the skin off with a sharp knife and cut into quarters.
  • Combine all the ingredients in a food processor with a steel blade and blend until smooth. (Again, divide the ingredients in half and blend each half separately, if food processor is not big enough for entire recipe.).
  • Combine in a lidded jar that will hold entire recipe, our separate in smaller jars.
  • Refigerate.
  • Skake jar or stir before serving.

Time 2h5m

Yield 1 cup, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 tablespoons fresh gingerroot, finlely minced
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup canola oil
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
1 1/2 teaspoons fine sugar
1 teaspoon coarse black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a glass jar or plastic container.
  • Shake well until dressing is combined.
  • Refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Shake well before serving.
  • Keeps well in refrigerator.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh and tender ginger for the best flavor. Look for ginger that is plump and has smooth, unblemished skin.
  • Peel and grate the ginger finely. This will help the ginger to blend well with the other ingredients and distribute its flavor evenly throughout the dressing.
  • Use a variety of citrus juices to add brightness and acidity to the dressing. Lemon, lime, and orange juices all work well.
  • Add a touch of honey or maple syrup to balance the tartness of the citrus juices and add a hint of sweetness.
  • Use a good quality olive oil for the best flavor and health benefits.
  • Season the dressing with salt and pepper to taste. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper or garlic powder for a little extra flavor.
  • Store the dressing in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Conclusion:

Ginger salad dressing is a versatile condiment that can be used on a variety of salads, roasted vegetables, and even grilled meats. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own personal taste preferences. So next time you are looking for a delicious and healthy way to dress up your salad, give ginger salad dressing a try!
