10 cups large chunks of peeled potatoes
8 slices bacon
3 large onions, sliced
1 ½ teaspoons salt

  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Remove bacon, drain, cool and crumble. Leave bacon fat in skillet and return to stove.

Tips:

  • To achieve crispy hash browns, use a well-seasoned cast iron skillet or a non-stick pan. Ensure the pan is heated over medium-high heat before adding the potatoes.
  • For a golden-brown crust, use butter or a combination of butter and oil. Butter adds flavor, while oil helps prevent sticking.
  • Grate the potatoes using the large holes of a box grater. This will create thin, even shreds that cook quickly and evenly.
  • Squeeze out excess moisture from the grated potatoes using a paper towel or cheesecloth. This will help prevent the hash browns from becoming soggy.
  • Season the hash browns generously with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Press the hash browns firmly into the pan, creating a flat and even layer. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Cook the hash browns undisturbed for 4-5 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown. Then, flip them and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until cooked through.
  • Serve the hash browns immediately with your favorite toppings, such as eggs, cheese, salsa, or avocado.

Conclusion:

Hungry Man's Hash Browns are a delicious and versatile breakfast dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a hearty and satisfying meal that will keep you full all morning long.
