IDELLA'S HOTDISH

Categories     Beef

Number Of Ingredients 11

8 oz. short, fine egg noodles
2 lbs. ground beef
1 clove diced garlic
1/2 cup minced onion
29 oz. tomato sauce
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup cottage cheese
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup minced onion
8 oz. shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350. Boil egg noodles until soft, then drain. Brown ground beef/diced garlic/onion, drain grease, then add tomato sauce and sugar, bring to a boil, then remove from heat. In a separate bowl, mix together the sour cream, cottage cheese, cream cheese and onion. In a 9x13 pan laer 1/2 of the egg noodles, then layer the cheese mixture (spread out as evenly as possible). Layer the other half of the egg noodles over that. Then layer the ground beef mixture. Top with shredded cheese, cover with foil and put in oven. Bake for 1 hour. At 45 minutes, remove foil. At 60 minutes, remove from oven and let sit 10 minutes. Cut and serve with salad and garlic bread.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Noodles: Use a pasta that will hold its shape well and won't get mushy, such as penne, macaroni, or shells.
  • Cook the Noodles Properly: Make sure to cook the noodles according to the package directions, as overcooked noodles will become mushy and ruin the dish.
  • Use Fresh, High-Quality Ingredients: The better the quality of your ingredients, the better the hotdish will taste. Use fresh vegetables, lean ground beef, and a flavorful cheese blend.
  • Don't Overcrowd the Pan: When browning the ground beef, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the beef from cooking evenly and will make it more likely to stick to the pan.
  • Simmer the Hotdish: After assembling the hotdish, simmer it for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld and the dish to thicken.
  • Let the Hotdish Rest Before Serving: Once the hotdish is cooked, let it rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to further develop and will make it easier to serve.
