un-salted butter
sugar
salt
fresh grated nutmeg

Steps:

  • Place 4 peeled, chopped russet potatoes and 2 peeled, chopped apples in a large pot; cover with water. Season with coarse salt. Cover & bring to a boil. Cook until soft, about 20 minutes. Drain. Add 4 tablespoons un-salted butter, 1 tablespoon sugar,3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg. Mash

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: For the best flavor and texture, use a variety of apples that are tart, sweet, and firm. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • Peel and core the apples: This will help the apples cook evenly and prevent the skins from becoming tough.
  • Cook the apples until they are soft: This will take about 15-20 minutes. You can check the apples by piercing them with a fork. If the fork goes in easily, the apples are done.
  • Add sugar to taste: The amount of sugar you add will depend on the sweetness of the apples. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Serve the apple mash warm or cold: Apple mash can be served as a side dish, a dessert, or a snack. It is delicious on its own or topped with whipped cream, ice cream, or yogurt.
