"IT'S A KEEPER!" FISH STICK CASSEROLE

There are several versions of this recipe, this is how I make it. My nephews LOVE it! It tastes like cheesey fish sticks, potatoes and a slight taste of creamy tartar sauce all baked into one! :) **If you don't like tartar sauce, simply omit the sweet pickle relish. But we LOVE it just like this! :)

This is a very mild sauerkraut recipe. It actually doesn't taste much like sauerkraut or I wouldn't like it. It took me 2 years to finally decide to give it a try and boy was it worth it! It is low calorie with vegetables and apple - an interesting blend of flavors. Serve with baked or mashed potatoes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right casserole dish: Select a casserole dish that is large enough to hold all of your ingredients comfortably, but not so large that the food will be spread too thin. A 9x13 inch casserole dish is a good standard size for most recipes.
  • Brown the meat before adding it to the casserole: Browning the meat helps to add flavor and depth to the dish. To brown the meat, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the meat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the meat is browned on all sides.
  • Don't overcook the casserole: casseroles are typically cooked in a low oven for a long period of time. However, it is important to not overcook the casserole, as this can make the ingredients tough and dry. The best way to tell if a casserole is done is to insert a toothpick into the center. If the toothpick comes out clean, the casserole is done.
  • Let the casserole rest before serving: Once the casserole is done cooking, let it rest for a few minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together and the casserole to firm up slightly.

Conclusion:

Casseroles are a delicious and versatile dish that can be made with a variety of ingredients. By following these tips, you can make sure that your casseroles turn out perfectly every time. So next time you're looking for an easy and hearty meal, give casserole a try!
