Number Of Ingredients 6

1 package refrigerated square wonton wrappers
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
3 jalapeños, seeds and ribs removed, finely chopped
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Vegetable oil for frying
Coarse salt

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine cream cheese, jalapeños, and cheddar cheese. Arrange wontons in a single layer on a baking sheet. Add 1 teaspoon of the filling to the center of each wonton (don't overfill them). Dip your fingers in a bowl of water and run your wet fingers around all edges of each wonton. Fold the wontons over the filling, pinching the edges to seal to make a triangle and removing any air bubbles. Fry wontons in batches in hot oil until browned and crispy. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with coarse salt. Serve warm.

Time 30m

Yield 5

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (4 ounce) can diced jalapeno peppers
20 (3.5 inch square) wonton wrappers
½ cup sweet chili sauce
oil for deep frying

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the cream cheese and jalapeno peppers. Arrange wonton wrappers a few at a time on a clean dry surface. Set a cup or small bowl of water nearby. Place about a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each wrapper. Moisten your fingertip in the bowl of water and trace the edges of the wonton wrappers. Fold into triangles or follow directions on the package for desired shapes. This part can be done ahead of time and refrigerated or frozen.
  • Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). When hot, fry the wontons a few at a time until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Repeat with all of the wontons, then serve with the sweet chili sauce for dipping.

Tips:

  • Use wonton wrappers that are not too thick, or they will be difficult to fry and will not cook evenly.
  • Be careful not to overfill the wontons, or they will burst open when they are fried.
  • If you don't have a deep fryer, you can fry the wontons in a large skillet filled with oil. Just be sure to use a thermometer to make sure the oil is at the right temperature before you add the wontons.
  • Serve the wontons with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or sweet and sour sauce.
  • For a healthier version of this recipe, you can bake the wontons instead of frying them. Just preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the wontons for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Conclusion:

Jalapeno popper wontons are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for parties or game day gatherings. They are sure to be a hit with your friends and family. So next time you are looking for a fun and tasty snack, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
