Number Of Ingredients 9

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
8 tablespoons chilled shortening
4 tablespoons chives, minced
4 tablespoons parsley, minced
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Steps:

  • Combine all dry ingredients in large bowl.
  • Cut in the shortening.
  • Add minced herbs.
  • Stir in the eggs& buttermilk.
  • Turn onto a floured surface& knead mixture briefly.
  • Pat or roll out to 1/2" thickness& cut into rounds.
  • Bake on an ungreased baking pan at 450 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use fresh herbs for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but use about 1/3 of the amount called for in the recipe.
  • Don't overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will make the biscuits tough. Mix the dough just until it comes together.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling and baking. Chilling the dough will make it easier to handle and will help the biscuits rise evenly.
  • Bake the biscuits in a hot oven. A hot oven will help the biscuits rise quickly and will give them a golden brown color.
  • Serve the biscuits warm with your favorite toppings. Herb biscuits are delicious served with butter, jam, or honey.

Conclusion:

Herb biscuits are a delicious and versatile bread that can be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They're easy to make and can be customized with your favorite herbs and toppings. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy bread recipe, give herb biscuits a try.
