BEST GARLIC TOAST (QUICK & EASY!)

BEST Garlic Toast (Quick & Easy!) image

Here's the very best garlic toast you'll find! Ultra garlicky, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside: and it takes only 10 minutes to make.

Provided by Sonja Overhiser

Categories     Side Dish

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 7

12 small round slices of a large baguette or Italian bread (homemade or store bought)*
2 cloves garlic (2 teaspoons finely minced)
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Garlic powder, for sprinkling
Finely chopped Italian parsley, for the garnish (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Thinly slice the bread.
  • Mince the garlic. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic with the olive oil, dried oregano, and salt. Use a brush to brush the mixture on both sides of each slice of bread and place them onto a baking sheet. Try to pick up some of the minced garlic with the brush, as it tends to sink to the bottom. (If the oil runs out, depending on your size of bread, just add a splash more to the bowl with the garlic.)
  • Add a pinch of garlic powder to the top of each toast.
  • Bake for 5 minutes until the crust is crisp but the inside is still soft. If desired, sprinkle with finely chopped Italian parsley. Enjoy immediately.

Whole Baked Garlic with Toasts image

Can be prepared in 45 minutes or less.

Yield Serves 2 as a first course

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 large head of garlic
3 tablespoons olive oil
ten 1/3-inch-thick diagonal slices of Italian or French bread

Steps:

  • Cut off the top quarter of the garlic with a sharp knife to expose the cloves, set the garlic in the middle of a large piece of foil, and drizzle it with 2 teaspoons of the oil. Crimp the foil around the garlic to enclose it completely and bake the garlic in the middle of a preheated 425°F. oven for 40 minutes. While the garlic is baking, brush the bread slices with the remaining oil and bake them on a baking sheet in the lower third of oven (below the garlic), turning them once, for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they are golden and crisp. Unwrap the garlic and put it on a serving plate surrounded by the toasts. To serve the garlic: Remove the softened cloves with a knife or fork, or turn the head of garlic upside down and squeeze out the cloves, and spread the garlic on the toasts.

Time 5m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 slices whole grain bread
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 -2 tablespoon light margarine
1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
1 teaspoon fresh parmesan cheese, grated
1 garlic clove, crushed
paprika
flaked sea salt

Steps:

  • Turn on broiler.
  • Place bread in single layer on sheet of foil. (I use toasted oat bread or whole wheat).
  • In small saucer or bowl, mix olive oil, margarine, Italian seasoning, garlic, and Parmesan.
  • Brush or spoon mixture over each piece of bread.
  • Sprinkle lightly with paprika.
  • Place 4-6" under broiler.
  • ***Watch Closely*** it can quickly go from browned to burnt if you're not paying attention. Cook 2-3 minutes & remove from oven when edges begin to brown.
  • Sprinkle lightly with flaked sea salt (I use pink Australian salt, but if you don't have any, a light sprinkling of regular table salt will do).

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Bread: Opt for a sturdy bread that can withstand the heat and moisture of the toaster without becoming soggy, such as sourdough, French bread, or baguette.
  • Use Fresh Garlic: Fresh garlic provides the best flavor for garlic toast. If using pre-minced garlic from a jar, make sure it's of good quality and not too old.
  • Don't Skimp on the Butter: Butter is essential for creating a rich and flavorful garlic toast. Use unsalted butter so you can control the saltiness of the dish.
  • Season Generously: In addition to salt and pepper, consider adding other seasonings and herbs to the garlic butter, such as garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, dried oregano, or chopped parsley.
  • Toast Until Golden Brown: Keep an eye on the garlic toast while it's toasting to ensure it doesn't burn. The ideal color is golden brown, with crispy edges and a slightly softened center.
  • Serve Immediately: Garlic toast is best served hot and fresh out of the toaster. It can be enjoyed on its own or as a side dish with soups, salads, or pasta.

Conclusion:

Garlic toast is a simple yet delicious appetizer or side dish that can be easily prepared at home. By following these tips and using high-quality ingredients, you can create a flavorful and satisfying garlic toast that will impress your family and friends. Experiment with different bread types, seasonings, and toppings to find your perfect combination. Enjoy garlic toast as a snack, appetizer, or accompaniment to your favorite meals.
