SWEET POTATO (KUMARA) WEDGES

Sweet Potato (Kumara) Wedges image

This is a recipe I made while attempting to finish a food tech assignment. This also works well with regular potatoes. Sweet potatoes are known as 'kumara' in New Zealand where I am from. Serve with sour cream.

Tips:

  • Choose the right sweet potatoes: Look for firm, smooth sweet potatoes with no blemishes or bruises. Organic sweet potatoes are a great option if you can find them.
  • Cook the sweet potatoes properly: Sweet potatoes can be boiled, roasted, or steamed. Boiling is the quickest method, but roasting or steaming will give the potatoes a more caramelized flavor.
  • Use fresh ginger: Fresh ginger has a much more intense flavor than ground ginger. If you can't find fresh ginger, you can use ground ginger, but you'll need to use more of it to get the same flavor.
  • Don't overcook the ginger: Ginger can quickly become bitter if it's overcooked. Add it to the sweet potato mash just before serving.
  • Season to taste: Be sure to taste the sweet potato mash before serving and adjust the seasonings as needed. You may want to add more salt, pepper, or ginger.

Conclusion:

Kumara sweet potato and ginger mash is a delicious and nutritious side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences.
