SALATAH EL LOOBYEA (LEBANESE GREEN BEAN SALAD)

Salatah El Loobyea (Lebanese Green Bean Salad) image

This is a nice change of pace from the typical bland way of serving green beans. I like to chill before serving, but they can also be served at room temperature. (Note: Prep time doesn't include letting the onion sit in the dressing or chilling in the fridge.)

1 lb green beans
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 medium onion, thinly sliced

Categories     Vegetable

Time 2h5m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb fresh green beans, washed and ends trimmed
1/2 cup chopped red onion
2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon pepper, to taste
1/4 teaspoon salt, to taste

Steps:

  • Cut beans into or leave whole. Steam beans for about 5 minutes, or until tender. Drain well.
  • Place beans in a large bowl with all remaining ingredients and toss well to combine.
  • Chill at least 2 hours before serving.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use fresh green beans. If using frozen green beans, thaw them completely before using.
  • Blanch the green beans in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then immediately transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. This will help them retain their bright green color and crisp texture.
  • Use a variety of fresh herbs in your salad, such as parsley, cilantro, mint, and dill. This will add a lot of flavor and freshness to the dish.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables to your salad, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, or bell peppers. This will make it more colorful and nutritious.
  • Serve the salad immediately or chill it for later. It will keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Lebanese green bean salad is a delicious, healthy, and refreshing side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you are looking for a new salad recipe, give this one a try!
