Tips for Cooking Leeks with Caraway Seeds:

  • Choose fresh, tender leeks with a mild flavor. Avoid leeks that are wilted or have yellow or brown spots.
  • Trim the leeks by removing the dark green tops and the tough outer leaves. Cut the leeks lengthwise and rinse them thoroughly to remove any dirt or grit.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice the leeks thinly. This will help them cook evenly and quickly.
  • Heat a large skillet or sauté pan over medium heat. Add the butter or olive oil and let it melt.
  • Add the leeks to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are softened and golden brown, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the caraway seeds, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir to combine.
  • Reduce the heat to low and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the leeks are tender and caramelized.
