LEMON AND DILL SEASONING FOR FISH AND VEGETABLES

Lemon and Dill Seasoning for Fish and Vegetables image

My simple flavor-enhancing seasoning doesn't overpower the natural flavors of fresh fish or vegetables. It can also be used for seasoned rice or rice pilaf (recipes below). To further compliment the flavors of fish, coat first lightly with olive oil, use seasoning -- add a small pinch of dried tarragon or crushed rosemary -- then cook as desired.

FISH SEASONING

Fish Seasoning image

This mild blend from Kayleen Nichols of Sterling, Virginia gives fish a lift but also adds interest to other meats and vegetables. "A neighbor whose husband was on a no-salt diet gave me this recipe over 20 years ago," Kayleen writes.

Provided by Taste of Home

Time 5m

Yield 1/3 cup.

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 tablespoons dried basil
2 tablespoons dill weed
2 tablespoons onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried grated lemon zest
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine all ingredients. Store in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.

Nutrition Facts :

Tips:

  • To make the best lemon dill seasoning, use fresh herbs and a good quality lemon. Fresh dill has a more vibrant flavor than dried dill, and a fresh lemon will provide more tartness and acidity to the seasoning.
  • The ratio of lemon zest to dill in this recipe is 1:1, but you can adjust it to your liking. If you want a more lemony flavor, add more zest. If you want a more dilly flavor, add more dill.
  • Lemon dill seasoning is very versatile. It can be used on fish, vegetables, poultry, and even salads. It's also a great addition to soups, stews, and dips.
  • If you don't have fresh dill on hand, you can use 1 teaspoon of dried dill instead. However, fresh dill is always the best choice for the best flavor.
  • You can also add other herbs to this seasoning blend, such as parsley, thyme, or rosemary. Just be sure to use them in moderation so that they don't overpower the lemon and dill.

Conclusion:

Lemon dill seasoning is a bright and flavorful blend that can be used on a variety of dishes. It's easy to make and can be stored in an airtight container for up to six months. So next time you're looking for a way to add some extra flavor to your food, reach for lemon dill seasoning. You won't be disappointed!
