This slow cooker meatloaf is lower in fat and cholesterol because you use 1/2 ground round and 1/2 ground turkey breast. This meatloaf will be moist, but not as greasy as other recipes for a slow cooker. May have some for leftovers, too!

Fat free ground turkey and lean ground pork meatloaf. Very low in fat and high in protein. I have calculated the nutritional values and this recipe is much lower in fat and cholesterol than the final recipe indicates. Be sure that the ground pork is very lean or use all turkey and more seasonings.

CAJUN TURKEY MEATLOAF (LOW FAT) HUBBIE'S FAVORITE

Cajun Turkey Meatloaf (Low Fat) Hubbie's Favorite image

A healthy version of meatloaf that does not sacrifice the taste for a healthy alternative! Leftovers are great on onion rolls with lettuce and tomato for a great sandwich treat. Your can use either Creole or Cajun seasoning. I've been making this for years, and I can't remember where I got it. Sometimes, I put slices of pancetta (or bacon) on the outside. Of course, it isn't as healthy - but it sure is pretty and tastes great.

LOW FAT ITALIAN MEATLOAF

Low Fat Italian Meatloaf image

I'm on the Atkins diet, so I follow a lot of low fat/no carb dishes. These are ones I make myself, ... trial and error. This was a success. My family loves this Italian version of a meat loaf that I make with ground turkey. Calories, fat and cholesterol wre reduced by: Using egg whites instead of a whole egg Replacing ground beef with ground turkey breast Using shredded apples to add moisture that is lost by eliminating the beef fat Using a reduced-fat spaghetti sauce. 445 calories per serving before, 227 after.

Time 55m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 egg whites, lightly beaten
2 garlic cloves, minced
3/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 medium apple, peeled, cored and finely shredded
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup fine seasoned dry bread crumb
1 lb ground turkey
2/3 cup reduced-fat spaghetti sauce
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the egg whites, garlic, basil, salt, rosemary and red pepper.
  • Then stir in the apples, onions and bread crumbs.
  • Add the turkey and mix until well combined.
  • Spray a 8x4x2" loaf pan with non-stick spray.
  • Pat the turkey mixture into the pan.
  • Bake for 15 minutes.
  • Spread the spaghetti sauce over the top of the turkey.
  • Bake about 25 minutes more, or until the turkey is no longer pink.
  • Let stand for 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the loaf to a serving plate.
  • Sprinkle the parmean cheese over the top.
  • Slice and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose lean ground beef: Opt for ground beef with a fat content of 90% or less for a healthier meatloaf.
  • Use low-fat ingredients: Incorporate low-fat or non-fat dairy products, such as skim milk or Greek yogurt, and skip the butter or oil when sautéing vegetables.
  • Add moisture: Vegetables like grated zucchini or chopped mushrooms add moisture and nutrients to the meatloaf without extra fat.
  • Use herbs and spices: Enhance the flavor of your meatloaf with a variety of herbs and spices instead of relying on high-fat sauces or gravies.
  • Bake instead of frying: Baking the meatloaf in the oven is a healthier cooking method than pan-frying.
  • Let it rest: Allow the meatloaf to rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving to let the juices redistribute.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, creating a delicious and healthy low-fat meatloaf is achievable with mindful ingredient choices and cooking techniques. Experiment with different herbs, spices, and vegetables to find flavor combinations that suit your taste. Remember to choose lean ground beef, incorporate low-fat ingredients, add moisture, and bake the meatloaf instead of frying it. By following these tips, you can enjoy a satisfying and nutritious meatloaf as part of a balanced diet.
