Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb extra lean ground beef
1 clove garlic, minced (or more to taste)
1 medium onion, chopped fine
1/2 medium green bell pepper, chopped fine
1/2 c sliced mushrooms
2 c chopped fresh tomatoes with juice or 16oz can diced tomatoes
1 can(s) 6 ounce tomato paste
1 tsp sugar
1 beef bouillon, cubes
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Crumble and brown ground beef. Drain off all fat; wipe out frying pan.
  • 2. Turn beef into colander, and rinse with cold water. Pat dry with paper towel; return to pan.
  • 3. Add garlic, onion, pepper, mushrooms and cook over medium low heat, stirring as necessary until veggies are soft.
  • 4. Add tomatoes and tomato paste. Add seasonings and simmer until hot throughout. Adjust seasonings to taste and serve over pasta with low fat Parmesan sprinkled over.

Tips:

  • Choose lean ground beef or turkey to reduce fat content.
  • Use low-fat Italian sausage or ground chicken or turkey as an alternative to beef.
  • Sauté vegetables like onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms in a non-stick pan with a small amount of olive oil instead of butter.
  • Use low-sodium canned tomatoes or tomato sauce to reduce sodium intake.
  • Add a cup of chopped spinach or kale to the sauce for an extra boost of nutrients.
  • Season the sauce with herbs and spices instead of salt.
  • Serve the sauce over whole-wheat spaghetti or zucchini noodles for a healthier meal.

Conclusion:

Making a low-fat spaghetti sauce is easy and delicious. With a few simple substitutions and additions, you can create a sauce that is both healthy and flavorful. Enjoy your low-fat spaghetti sauce with your favorite pasta, vegetables, or protein. It's a great way to enjoy a classic Italian dish without all the guilt.
