LOWER FAT CRANBERRY APPLE CRISP

Lower Fat Cranberry Apple Crisp image

This is a remake using less fat that I found on the Florida Herald Tribune website. Love to get the same taste using less fat! NOTE: finally got around to making this, and for my taste it is way too tart. I would either add more sugar to the cranberries or use dried to begin with. I'd forgotten just how tart fresh cranberries can be!

Tips:

  • For a healthier version of this classic dessert, use oat flour instead of all-purpose flour. Oat flour is a good source of fiber and can help lower cholesterol. It also has a nutty flavor that complements the cranberries and apples.
  • If you don't have rolled oats, you can make your own oat flour by blending rolled oats in a food processor until they are finely ground.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar to your liking. For a less sweet crisp, use 1/2 cup of sugar instead of 3/4 cup.
  • For a crispier topping, use a combination of oats, flour, and butter. The butter will help the topping brown and crisp up in the oven.
  • If you don't have a food processor, you can grate the apples by hand using a box grater. Just be sure to grate them coarsely so that they hold their shape in the crisp.
  • Serve the crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

This lower-fat cranberry-apple crisp is a delicious and healthy dessert that is perfect for fall. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your liking. Whether you prefer a sweeter or less sweet crisp, or a crispier or softer topping, this recipe has you covered. So next time you're in the mood for a comforting dessert, give this lower-fat cranberry-apple crisp a try.
