REDUCED FAT VEGETARIAN CHEESEBURGER PIE

Reduced Fat Vegetarian Cheeseburger Pie image

My mom always made the best cheeseburger pie, and when I stopped eating red meat I always craved this recipe. Finally, I got adventurous and created my own Vegetarian Cheeseburger Pie! I use Boca Meatless Ground Burger, but I'm sure any soy artificial hamburger would work. Quick and easy! The ingredients listed also make the pie reduced fat.

Categories     Savory Pies

Time 40m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 cups vegetarian ground beef (equivalent to 1 lb)
1/2 cup sweet onion, diced
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon vegetarian worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup egg substitute
1 cup low fat cottage cheese
1 cup low-fat cheddar cheese
1 frozen 9-inch deep dish pie shell, thawed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Set frozen pie crust on counter to thaw.
  • Spray non-stick skillet with cooking spray.
  • Heat frozen imitation burger in skillet with onion powder until heated through.
  • Add flour and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until evenly coated.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a small bowl, fold cottage cheese into egg substitute.
  • Layer into pie crust: 1/3 cheddar cheese, 1/2 of meat mixture, 1/2 of egg mixture, 1/3 cheddar cheese, 1/2 of meat mixture, 1/2 of egg mixture, remaining cheddar cheese.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is set.

Tips:

  • To ensure a smooth and creamy texture, make sure the cream cheese and sour cream are at room temperature before mixing.
  • Use lean ground beef to reduce the overall fat content of the pie.
  • Add your favorite seasonings and spices to the ground beef mixture to enhance the flavor. Consider using garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or chili powder.
  • If you don't have refrigerated crescent roll dough, you can use puff pastry dough instead. Just be sure to thaw it according to the package instructions.
  • Grate your own cheese for a fresher and more flavorful taste. Pre-shredded cheese often contains additives and preservatives that can compromise the flavor.
  • Serve the cheeseburger pie with your favorite toppings, such as ketchup, mustard, pickles, and onions.

Conclusion:

A low-fat cheeseburger pie is a delicious and satisfying meal that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It's a great way to use up leftover ground beef and it's also a fun and easy recipe to make with kids. With its creamy filling, flavorful beef mixture, and flaky crust, this pie is sure to be a hit at your next potluck or family gathering. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give this low-fat cheeseburger pie a try. You won't be disappointed!
