MAID RITES (LOOSE MEAT SANDWICHES)

Maid Rites (loose meat sandwiches) image

If you have ever been to the Mid-West or watched Rosanne you probably have heard of Maid-Rite also known as the loose meat sandwich. It's a kind of sloppy joe without the red sauce. It is served with mustard, pickle and onion but I do like mine with ketchup on it too. Not sure where this recipe comes from originally....

Yield 15

Number Of Ingredients 7

Ground beef - 4 lbs
Dry onion soup mix - 1 package
Onion soup - 16 oz (or half carton)
Ketchup - as much as you want
Worchestershire sauce - just eyeball it
Brown sugar - handful
Hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Brown beef. Combine beef, onion soup mix, onion soup, ketchup, worchestershire sauce, & brown sugar in slow cooker. Cook on low for 1 hr then on high for 2 hrs.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ground beef. The better the quality of the beef, the better your Maid-Rite sandwiches will be. Look for ground beef that is at least 80% lean.
  • Season the beef well. Use a generous amount of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to season the beef. This will help to give the sandwiches a delicious flavor.
  • Cook the beef until it is well-browned. This will help to develop the flavor and texture of the beef.
  • Use a good quality bun. The bun is an important part of the Maid-Rite sandwich. Look for a bun that is soft and fluffy.
  • Toast the buns before assembling the sandwiches. This will help to make the sandwiches more flavorful and prevent the buns from getting soggy.
  • Add your favorite toppings. Maid-Rite sandwiches are traditionally served with ketchup, mustard, and pickles. However, you can also add other toppings, such as cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, or onions.
