BEST EVER EGG & CHEESE SANDWICH

Best Ever Egg & Cheese Sandwich image

This is an old family favorite. I have added a little heat to it with the pepper flakes. Fried onions are also a nice option to make it a little special. Try it with a little Thousand Island Dressing. Cheddar cheese is fine but Cheez Whiz does the trick!

Provided by GaylaV

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 egg
2 teaspoons margarine (or butter)
2 slices bread (multigrain is best)
1 tablespoon Cheez Whiz (or your favorite cheese)
salt and pepper (to taste)
red pepper flakes (to taste)

Steps:

  • Melt margarine in frying pan.
  • Add egg (don't break the yolk, but if you do that is alright too!).
  • Gently fry the egg.
  • Sprinkle the egg with the salt, black pepper and red pepper flakes. (if you don't like hot, leave them off).
  • Flip the egg over. I like the yolk to be a bit soft. Polk the yolk after you have turned the egg so that a bit of the yolk seeps out.
  • Spread the Cheez Whiz on one side of the bread.
  • Put the egg on the bread and top with the other slice of bread. (I like the side with the pepper flakes to meet the Cheez Whiz).
  • Return the sandwich to your fryng pan and grill until golden, flip over and grill the other side. (I don't butter the sandwich before frying).
  • Enjoy!

MEDIANOCHE (MIDNIGHT SANDWICH)

Medianoche (Midnight Sandwich) image

The Cubano's cuter cousin, the Media Noche was sold as a late-night snack in Havana's cafés. Calling for the same blend of sweet-cured ham, Swiss cheese, and pickles, it works best with juicier cuts of pork-though what really sets it apart is the egg-rich Pan de Media Noche.

Provided by Ana Sofia Pelaez

Categories     Cuba     Sandwich     Pork     Ham     Swiss Cheese     Pickles

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 large rolls Pan de Media Noche or sweet roll-like brioche or challah, sliced lengthwise
4 tablespoons yellow mustard
12 ounces sweet-cured ham, thickly sliced
8 ounces Lechón Asado, sliced, trimmed of any excess fat, and at room temperature
4 ounces Swiss cheese (Emmentaler or Jarlsberg), thinly sliced
2 large dill pickles, thinly sliced crosswise
4 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled to room temperature, plus more for greasing

Steps:

  • Spread both sides of each roll with mustard. Layer the bottom half with ham, pork, and cheese to cover the bread from end to end. Top with sliced pickles to taste. Brush the outside of the bread, both top and bottom, with butter.
  • Heat a sandwich press over medium heat. Lightly brush the inside of the press with additional butter. Press the sandwich until the cheese is melted and the meats are warm, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Alternately, heat a 12-inch cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Create a press by wrapping a brick, heavy skillet, or can of soup in aluminum foil. Place the sandwich in the skillet and press down on the sandwich, turning once, until it is warmed through and the outside crust is golden, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Repeat with the remaining sandwiches. Slice on the diagonal and serve.

EGG AND CREAM CHEESE PARTY SANDWICHES

Egg and Cream Cheese Party Sandwiches image

In place of the celery, use the same amount of very finely chopped pecans, just make certain that you inform your guests of the nuts in case of nut allergies! Make certain to very finely chop all the onions, olives and celery. Plan ahead the egg mixture needs to chill for 24 hours to blend flavors before using for the sandwiches. There should be enough filling for 4-5 sandwiches (8-10 slices of bread) which will give you 16-20 small sandwich triangles, you can easily double the amount for more sandwiches.

CLASSIC CUBAN MIDNIGHT (MEDIANOCHE) SANDWICH

Classic Cuban Midnight (Medianoche) Sandwich image

This is one of the more famous sandwiches straight out of the island of Cuba. This recipe came from my uncle who used to work at a restaurant in Pinar del Rio, Cuba and now works at a Cuban cafeteria here in Miami. This sandwich is best served with fried plantain chips and a cold mamey milkshake!

Provided by Pretty Pink Bullets

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     Latin American     Caribbean

Time 23m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 sweet bread rolls
½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup prepared mustard
1 pound thinly sliced cooked ham
1 pound thinly sliced fully cooked pork
1 pound sliced Swiss cheese
1 cup dill pickle slices
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Split the sandwich rolls in half, and spread mustard and mayonnaise liberally onto the cut sides. On each sandwich, place and equal amount of Swiss cheese, ham and pork in exactly that order. Place a few pickles onto each one, and put the top of the roll onto the sandwich. Brush the tops with melted butter.
  • Press each sandwich in a sandwich press heated to medium-high heat. If a sandwich press is not available, use a large skillet over medium-high heat, and press the sandwiches down using a sturdy plate or skillet. Some indoor grills may be good for this also. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes, keeping sandwiches pressed. If using a skillet, you may want to flip them once for even browning. Slice diagonally and serve hot.

FRIED EGG & CHEESE SANDWICH

Fried Egg & Cheese Sandwich image

I don't care for runny eggs (except eggs benedict) so this hits the spot when I'm in the mood for something more rich and substantial than scrambled eggs, but not gooey (except the cheese). If I have it on hand, I replace one egg with a slice of ham that I fry first.

Provided by Marla Swoffer

Categories     Breakfast

Time 10m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 eggs
1 -2 slice cheese
2 slices toast (I use whole wheat)
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Heat the butter in a medium-sized non-stick frying pan over medium high heat.
  • When it's very hot, crack one egg on one side of the pan and one egg on the other side of the pan.
  • Try to keep them from running into each other so that they can be flipped individually.
  • CRUCIAL: Poke the yolks with the eggshell (or a fork) so that they run into the whites.
  • Sprinkle salt and pepper on the eggs.
  • When eggs have set (edges seem firm), flip carefully.
  • I usually end up flipping them a few times to make sure the yolk is thoroughly cooked (it's okay if it's a little soft inside but not runny).
  • When almost done, top each egg with a piece of cheese and cover with a lid until melty--watch closely.
  • Spread mayo on each slice of toast, top with eggs, and put together.

2 teaspoons water, divided

4 teaspoons butter, divided
4 slices cheddar cheese
4 biscuits, split in half

  • Heat a nonstick skillet over low heat. Melt 1 teaspoon of butter in the pan. Pour in the beaten egg and tilt the pan so the egg coats the pan in an even layer. Top with a few slices of steak and the top biscuit half.

Time 10m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 slices good quality bread, toasted pretty crunchy, per person
1 tablespoon pizza sauce, per slice
2 eggs, per person
garlic salt
parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • toast your bread. I like D'Annuzios. Use a good quality french, italian or ciabatta. Fry egg to your personal preference, me, i like it over easy. sprinkle with garlic salt to taste. Heat pizza sauce in microwave, then spread on toasted bread. You may use more than 1 tbsp if you like it saucey. Place your egg on top of sauce and sprinkle liberally with freshly grated parmesan. You may use marina, spaghetti or plain tomato sauce, but i found i really prefer a good quality pizza sauce. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • To enhance the flavor, use a good quality sharp cheddar cheese. Grating it yourself produces the best results.
  • For a crispier sandwich, use day-old bread or toast the bread before assembling.
  • If you prefer softer eggs, reduce the cooking time or cover the pan while cooking.
  • Add your favorite toppings such as sliced ham, bacon, or avocado to make the sandwich more substantial.
  • Serve the sandwich immediately while it's hot and gooey.

Conclusion:

The Midnight Eggs and Cheese Sandwich is a quick, easy, and satisfying meal that can be enjoyed at any time of day.
