MILE-HIGH CABBAGE PIE #5FIX

Mile-High Cabbage Pie #5FIX image

5-Ingredient Fix Contest Entry. Have you ever made cabbage pockets? Some people call them Kraut Burgers. My mom calls them German Hamburgers. I am referring to the little buns of dough filled with hamburger and cabbage. I used to make the dough from scratch - let it rise, punch it, and all that. Too much work for this girl! I have an easier way... a casserole that tastes like cabbage pockets. This is much easier to make because you don't have to roll out the dough to make individual burgers.

  • Shred the cabbage finely. This will help it cook evenly and will make the pie easier to eat.
  • Season the cabbage well. Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all good choices. You can also add other herbs and spices, such as cumin, coriander, or paprika.
  • Use a good quality cheese. Cheddar cheese is the most common type used in cabbage pie, but you can also use mozzarella, Parmesan, or a combination of different types.
  • Don't overcook the cabbage. It should be tender but still slightly crunchy.
