These are traditional cookies Mom used to make for Christmas. They are a bit of work, but they were so popular that Mom used to hide them, which just meant that we would find them and eat them before she realized that we were into them.

Time 8h50m

¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
½ cup tightly packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons white sugar, divided, or as needed
1 large egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
2 ½ cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons milk, or more as needed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons chocolate sprinkles, or as needed

Tips:

Use quality ingredients: Fresh, high-quality ingredients will make a big difference in the taste of your cookies. Opt for premium butter, pure vanilla extract, and top-notch chocolate chips. Measure accurately: Baking is a science, and precise measurements are essential for success. Using a kitchen scale to measure ingredients is the most accurate way to ensure your cookies turn out perfectly. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy: This step is crucial for creating a smooth, creamy cookie dough. Cream the butter and sugar together until they are light and fluffy, and the sugar has dissolved. Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough helps to firm it up and prevent it from spreading too much in the oven. This results in cookies that are chewy and thick. Bake the cookies at the right temperature: The oven temperature is critical for achieving the perfect cookie. Be sure to preheat the oven to the correct temperature before baking and bake the cookies for the recommended amount of time. Let the cookies cool completely before decorating: Decorating cookies too soon can cause the frosting to melt or slide off. Let the cookies cool completely before adding any frosting or decorations.

Conclusion:

Christmas cookies are a delicious and festive treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a little planning and preparation, you can easily make your own homemade Christmas cookies that will impress your family and friends.
