STICKIES

Stickies image

Stickies are made up of the bits of dough left over after you've made a pie. If you haven't made a pie and want to have a little sweet pastry anyway, here's how:

Time 45m

Yield 12 stickies

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup margarine, plus
3 tablespoons margarine
4 -5 teaspoons ice water
1/2 cup brown sugar
cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Mix the flour and salt together.
  • Cut in the 1/2 cup margarine with the ice water.
  • Roll out like you would a pie crust.
  • Sprinkle the brown sugar over the top.
  • You can use honey or maple syrup, but it will be messier and even stickier, if that is possible.
  • Dot with the 3 tablespoons margarine, and sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon.
  • Roll up into a thick roll like a cigar.
  • Slice the roll into 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces.
  • Place the slices close together on a cookie sheet, so they won't come apart.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes.
  • Take these out of the pan while they are still warm or they will stick badly.

MRS. RAGAN'S GASTON COUNTY STICKIES

Mrs. Ragan's Gaston County Stickies image

Found this recipe in the Myers Park Presbyterian Church cookbook, "Count Our Blessings". It is a fabulous cookbook filled with great treats but this has to be my favorite of the recipes I have tried. The recipe says serve at room temperature but even better slightly warmed. Also that this recipe has been a Ragan family tradition for 100 years.

EMILY'S MARINATED VENISON STEAKS

Emily's Marinated Venison Steaks image

This venison steak recipe is made with a delicious marinade. I threw this together one afternoon as we needed to use the venison we had in our freezer. We don't like the gamey taste of some meats, and this marinade did the trick! I find it best to have the meat marinate overnight, so it takes in the flavors.

Categories     Venison Recipes

Time 1h20m

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 12

¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
½ lime, juiced
1 tablespoon dried minced onion
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon dry mustard
½ teaspoon Kosher salt
¼ teaspoon thyme
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ teaspoon dried, minced garlic
3 dashes hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®), or to taste
2 (4 ounce) venison steaks

Steps:

  • Whisk together Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, onion, red pepper flakes, dry mustard, salt, thyme, black pepper, garlic, and hot pepper sauce in a bowl; pour into a resealable plastic bag. Add venison steaks, coat with marinade, squeeze to remove excess air, and seal the bag. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Remove venison from marinade and shake off excess. Discard remaining marinade.
  • Cook steaks on the preheated grill until they are firm, hot in the center, and just turning from pink to grey, about 5 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 150 degrees F (65 degrees C).

PERFECT YEAST ROLLS

Perfect Yeast Rolls image

Another wonderful recipe from Myers Park Presbyterian Church cookbook "Count Our Blessings".

Provided by SB61287

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 15m

Yield 2-4 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 packages dry fast rise yeast
3/4 cup Butter Flavor Crisco
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 cup real mashed potatoes
2 eggs, beaten
7 -8 cups bread flour (can use all-purpose)

Steps:

  • Soften yeast in 2 cups warm water.
  • Blend Crisco into yeast mixture. Add sugar, salt, flour, potatoes and beaten eggs, mix well.
  • Cover bowl with damp towel(I use linen) and let dough rise until doubled in bulk.
  • Shape rolls and let rise again for 1 to 2 hours.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.

Tips:

  • Be sure to use fresh, ripe fruit for the best flavor.
  • The longer you let the fruit marinate in the sugar, the more flavorful the filling will be.
  • Don't overcook the filling. It should be thick and bubbly, but not too thick.
  • Use a pastry brush to lightly brush the egg wash over the tops of the pastries before baking. This will give them a golden brown color.
  • Let the pastries cool completely before serving. This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld.

Conclusion:

No matter which recipe you choose, you're sure to enjoy these delicious and easy-to-make Gaston County stickies. With their sweet and gooey filling and flaky crust, they're the perfect treat for any occasion.
