NANA'S APPLE CRUMBLE
A family favorite, this apple crumble was originally my grandmother Hazel's recipe which my mom made on a regular basis. She would make two at a time to take to sick or shut-in friends, or to potlucks. There is never any left. Serve warm with French vanilla yogurt.

NANA'S GERMAN APPLE CAKE
This is a slight variation of a recipe of my Grandmother's. It is very simple to make. If you can't find vanilla bean paste you can use vanilla extract. This German Apple Cake is great as a dessert or even as breakfast.

GRAN'S APPLE CAKE
My grandmother occasionally brought over this wonderful cake warm from the oven. The spicy apple flavor combined with the sweet cream cheese frosting made this recipe one that we treasured. Even though I've lightened it up, it's still a family favorite. -Lauris Conrad, Turlock, California

- Use fresh, ripe apples and bananas. This will give your cake the best flavor and texture.
- Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the cake tough.
- Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. But do not overbake the cake. Overbaking can dry it out.
- Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help the frosting to set properly.
- Serve the cake at room temperature. This will allow the flavors to fully develop.
