Grandma Nestleroad's Date Nut Pudding image

This is a traditional style pudding. It was passed down through the family on my father's side. It is a Christmas tradition we love! It is best to bake this at least a day before serving. The taste and texture becomes even richer the longer you wait. It actually requires no refrigeration, just keep the lid on it. Be prepared to have your blood sugar soar!

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, ensure all your ingredients are measured, prepped, and ready to go. This will help you stay organized and prevent any scrambling.
  • Use Fresh Dates: Fresh, plump dates yield the best flavor and texture in this pudding. Look for dates that are soft and moist, with no signs of mold or wrinkles.
  • Don't Overcook: The pudding should be cooked until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Overcooking can result in a dry, crumbly pudding.
  • Let it Cool: Allow the pudding to cool completely before serving. This will help it set and develop its full flavor.
  • Garnish Elegantly: When serving, consider garnishing the pudding with whipped cream, fresh berries, or chopped nuts for an elegant touch.
