Time 1h15m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 1/2 cups water test
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1 cup dark raisins
1/2 teaspoons salt
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 large eggs
13 by 9-inch baking pan

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a boil in a medium-size saucepan over moderately high heat. Stir in the oats. When the liquid returns to a boil, stir in the raisins and salt. Reduce the heat and simmer 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are soft and the water is absorbed. Remove from heat, stir in the sugar, applesauce, and oil. Cool to lukewarm. Meanwhile, heat the oven to 350 degrees, and grease the pan. Put the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a large bowl. Stir to mix well. Stir the eggs into the oat mixture. Add the flour mixture, and stir just until moistened. Spread in the prepared pan and bake 30 to 40 minutes, or until the cake starts to shrink from the sides of the pan and a wooden pick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Place the pan on a wire rack to cool. The cake is good served warm. Or cool completely, cover tightly, and store overnight at room temperature before serving or freezing.

APPLESAUCE OATMEAL CAKE

I got this from another site, where it was credited to Meal Master. It's not a fancy dessert-for-dinner cake, but more like a snack cake or coffee cake. It's very moist and buttery-sugary.

Time 55m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/4 cups unsweetened applesauce
3/4 cup quick-cooking oats
3/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Steps:

  • Bring applesauce to a boil in a small saucepan; remove from heat.

  • Gradually add sugar, beating well.
  • Add egg and beat well.
  • Combine dry ingredients and add gradually to creamed mixture, mixing just until blended after each addition.

Categories     Cake     Chocolate     Dessert     Bake     Quick & Easy

Yield 8-10 people

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 cup raw oatmeal
2 cups flour
1 cup margarine
2 cups applesauce
1 cup white sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup brown sugar
½ tsp. baking powder

Steps:

  • Cream together margarine and both sugars. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and oatmeal. Blend flour & oatmeal mixture with margarine & sugar until crumbly & well blended. Place ½ the mixture in a 9x13" baking dish & pat down lightly. Spread 2 cups of applesauce on top. Cover with the other ½ of the crumb mixture. Bake 45 minutes at 350° degrees or until set.

Tips:

  • Use ripe applesauce: This will give your cake a more intense apple flavor. If you don't have ripe applesauce, you can make your own by simmering peeled, cored apples with a little water and sugar until they are soft.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixed batter can make your cake tough. Mix the batter only until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean: This is the best way to tell if the cake is done.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting: This will help the frosting to set properly.
  • Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days: You can also store the cake in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Conclusion:

Oatmeal applesauce cake is a delicious and easy-to-make cake that is perfect for any occasion. It is moist and flavorful, with a sweet and tart apple flavor. This cake is also a good source of fiber and oats, making it a healthier option than many other cakes. Whether you are looking for a simple snack or a special dessert, oatmeal applesauce cake is sure to please.
