Time 25m

Yield 10 Hot Dog Sauce, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, saute ground beef and onion over medium heat, stirring often, until beef is browned. Add tomato sauce, chili powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring mixture to a boil, lower heat, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • NOTE: For a real taste treat, place cooked hot dogs on rolls and top with sauce; you should have enough for about 10. Add your favorite regular toppings, too. To make the sauce taste as if it came from a New York pushcart, add a little cinnamon. Oregano will give it a Greek or Italian flavor and a teaspoon of ground cumin will make it an authentic chili dog.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will directly impact the flavor of your sauce. Use fresh, ripe tomatoes, onions, and garlic for the best results.
  • Brown the meat: Browning the ground beef or pork adds a rich, savory flavor to the sauce. Be sure to brown the meat in a hot skillet until it is well-browned on all sides.
  • Simmer the sauce: Simmering the sauce allows the flavors to meld and develop. Simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes, or longer if you have time.
  • Season to taste: Taste the sauce as you go and adjust the seasonings as needed. Add more chili powder, cumin, or oregano if you want a more flavorful sauce. You might also want to add a touch of sweetness with sugar or honey.
  • Let the sauce cool before serving: The sauce will thicken as it cools. Let it cool for at least 15 minutes before serving so that it has a chance to thicken up.

This old-fashioned Coney hot dog sauce is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used on hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, or anything else you can think of. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you are looking for a new and exciting way to flavor your food, give this Coney hot dog sauce a try.
