Time 40m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups apples (baking appled sliced or we like granny smith)
3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup oats
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/3 cup butter

Steps:

  • Heat oven 375. Grease 8 x 8 baking dish. Arrange apples in a Pan.
  • Mix remaining ingredients with fork & sprinkle over apples.
  • Bake until apples are tender and topping is golden brown, about 30 minutes.
  • Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
  • Serves 6.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your apple crisp a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady.
  • Peel and core the apples before slicing them. This will help the apples cook evenly and prevent the skins from toughening.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking dish. The apples should be in a single layer so that they can cook evenly.
  • Use a combination of white and brown sugar. This will give the apple crisp a rich, caramelized flavor.
  • Add a pinch of salt. This will help to balance the sweetness of the apples and sugar.
  • Top the apple crisp with a mixture of oats, flour, butter, and brown sugar. This will create a crispy, golden-brown topping.
  • Bake the apple crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. This usually takes about 45 minutes.
  • Let the apple crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the topping to set.

Conclusion:

Apple crisp is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and tangy apples, crispy topping, and warm spices, it's the perfect comfort food for any occasion.
