1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups whole milk
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 pints heavy whipping cream
3 tablespoons vanilla extract

  • In a large heavy saucepan, combine sugar, flour and salt. Gradually add milk until smooth. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat to low; cook and stir 2 minutes longer. Remove from heat., In a small bowl, whisk a small amount of hot mixture into eggs; return all to pan, whisking constantly. 1 1/4 cups whole milk
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

  • Combine sugar, salt and milk in saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until mixture almost boils.
  • Reduce to low.
  • Gradually stir about 1/2 cup of hot mil into the beaten eggs.
