WESTERN-STYLE BAKED BEANS
My husband does not like baked beans but can't get enough of these. They are loaded with a variety of meats and get a little bit of sweetness from molasses and brown sugar. If you don't have a slow cooker, you can bake them in the oven until heated through.

BEST IN THE WEST BAKED BEANS
I think I clipped this recipe out of the newspaper years ago. It is always a huge hit at picnics, barbecues and get togethers. It's a nice change from the more traditional baked beans. I can't even begin to guess how many times I have handed out the recipe.

Steps:
- Brown beef, bacon and onion in large skillet. Drain.
- Combine all ingredients except beans, mix well.
- Add beans and stir gently.
- Bake one hour in a 325 to 350 oven (or until hot a bubbly).
- This recipe can easily be cut in half since it makes a rather large batch. I only use half the bacon. If you would like, you could add some more beef if cutting back on the bacon.

Tips:
- Use dried beans: Dried beans are more flavorful and economical than canned beans. If you are using dried beans, soak them overnight in water before cooking.
- Cook the beans in a slow cooker: A slow cooker is a great way to cook baked beans because it allows the beans to cook slowly and evenly. This results in a more flavorful and tender dish.
- Use a variety of beans: Don't just use one type of bean in your baked beans. Try a combination of different beans, such as pinto beans, navy beans, and kidney beans.
- Add some vegetables: Vegetables add flavor and nutrition to baked beans. Try adding diced onions, celery, and green peppers.
- Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is what really makes baked beans special. Use a sauce that is flavorful and tangy. You can use a bottled sauce or make your own.
- Cook the beans until they are tender: Baked beans should be cooked until they are tender but not mushy. This usually takes about 2 hours in a slow cooker or 1 hour in a pot on the stovetop.
Conclusion:
Old West Baked Beans are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. Whether you are having a cookout, a potluck, or just a casual dinner at home, these beans are sure to be a hit. So next time you are looking for a tasty and hearty dish, give Old West Baked Beans a try. You won't be disappointed.
