OLIVE, BACON, & CHEESE BREAD RECIPE - (4.2/5)
Provided by ukiahgal67

Steps:
- NOTE: City ham is the already cooked ham and is sold as "ready to serve". Buy it still on the bone, because it's better! If you don't want to bring back the whole ham at home, ask your butcher to slice it off for you. In a large bowl, whisk together the wine, oil, eggs, and salt. Separately, mix the flour and baking powder, sift and stir into the liquid preparation. Chop the onion finely and sautee in a skillet with a bit of olive oil or butter. Add the bacon to onions and cook for a few minutes then keep aside. Take care of draining the mixture to avoid a soggy dough. Slice the olives and parsley then cut the ham. Add all ingredients and grated cheese to the basic preparation and mix. Pour into a buttered pan. Bake in the oven for 1 hour at 360°F (180°C).
Tips:
- Use a combination of all-purpose flour and bread flour to create a light and airy texture in the bread.
- Make sure the yeast is active and bubbly before adding it to the dough.
- Add the salt and sugar to the dough gradually, to prevent the yeast from being killed.
- Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
- Let the dough rise again until it has doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
- Bake the bread in a preheated oven at 375°F for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let the bread cool completely before slicing and serving.
Conclusion:
This olive cheese bread recipe is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. The combination of salty olives, gooey cheese, and savory herbs make this bread a surefire crowd-pleaser. You can use any type of cheese but mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan are the great options. Feta and goat cheese also make a delicious addition.
