Time 10m

Yield 24 cookies

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 cups vanilla wafer crumbs or 3 cups shortbread, crumbs
3/4 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup grated sweetened coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
1 (6 ounce) can orange juice concentrate, thawed
3 -4 tablespoons Cointreau liqueur (I recommend 4 !)
powdered sugar, additional for rolling

Steps:

  • Mix first six ingredients.
  • Form into one- to one-and-a-half-inch balls.
  • Roll in powdered sugar.
  • Store in covered container.

Tips:

  • Using a sharp knife to cut the oranges into segments will help prevent the segments from breaking apart.
  • If you don't have a zester, you can use a Microplane to remove the zest from the oranges.
  • Be sure to remove the white pith from the oranges before cutting them into segments. The pith is bitter and will make the orange balls less palatable.
  • If you don't have any vanilla extract, you can substitute 1 teaspoon of vanilla bean paste or 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla powder.
  • If you don't have any orange liqueur, you can substitute 1 tablespoon of Grand Marnier or Cointreau.
  • Be sure to chill the orange balls for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will help them to set and firm up.

Conclusion:

Orange balls are a delicious and refreshing treat that are perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you enjoy them plain, dipped in chocolate, or covered in nuts, orange balls are sure to please everyone. So next time you are looking for a sweet and satisfying snack, give these orange balls a try.
