These tasty, crispy cookies, from Ione Diekfuss of Muskego, Wisconsin, won Country Woman's first-ever recipe contest, back in December 1970. "I especially like them because they're quick and easy to prepare," she said. Our Test Kitchen made a batch recently and our staff agreed they're as tasty today as they were then, and are great for dunking in milk or coffee.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality butter: The better the butter you use, the better your cookies will taste. Look for butter that is made from fresh cream and has a high butterfat content.
  • Brown the butter correctly: Don't rush the browning process. Be patient and watch the butter carefully so that it doesn't burn. The butter should be a deep golden brown color.
  • Chill the dough: Chilling the dough before baking helps to develop the flavor and makes the dough easier to work with.
  • Bake the cookies at the right temperature: The cookies should be baked at a moderate temperature so that they have a chance to spread and brown evenly.
  • Don't overbake the cookies: The cookies are done when they are just set around the edges and still soft in the center.

Conclusion:

Brown butter refrigerator cookies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a batch of cookies that are perfect for any occasion. These cookies are also a great way to use up leftover brown butter. So next time you have some brown butter on hand, be sure to give this recipe a try.
