Butternut squash is a versatile vegetable that can add a touch of sweetness and warmth to any dish. When roasted, butternut squash takes on a slightly caramelized flavor that pairs perfectly with a variety of herbs, spices, and cheeses. One of the most popular ways to prepare butternut squash is to roast it with parmesan cheese. The combination of the sweet squash and the salty, nutty cheese creates a delicious and satisfying dish that can be enjoyed as a side dish or main course.

Steps:
- Place a rack in middle of oven; preheat to 300°F. Prick squash all over with the point of a sharp paring knife and arrange on a foil-lined rimmed baking sheet. Roast until very tender (knife should slide easily through the flesh), about 3 hours. Tear or cut squash in half and let sit until cool enough to handle.

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. In a salad bowl, toss the butternut squash cubes with the garlic, melted butter, salt, pepper, and parsley leaves. Transfer the butternut squash on a baking sheet. Spread out in an even and single layer (no overlap), and roast for about 40 minutes or until the surface becomes light brown and the flesh is tender and soft. Turn off the heat, remove from oven and sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top of the squash. Put it back into the oven for 5 minutes until the cheese melted. Serve immediately.
Tips:
- Choose the right butternut squash: Look for a squash that is firm and heavy for its size, with a smooth, unblemished skin. Avoid any squash that has soft spots or bruises.
- Roast the squash at a high temperature: This will help to caramelize the natural sugars in the squash and give it a delicious, nutty flavor. Aim for a temperature of 425 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
- Use a variety of seasonings: Butternut squash is a versatile vegetable that can be paired with a variety of different herbs and spices. Some popular options include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cumin.
- Roast the squash until it is tender: The squash should be tender enough to easily pierce with a fork, but not so soft that it falls apart. The roasting time will vary depending on the size of the squash and how thick it is cut.
- Serve the squash immediately: Roasted butternut squash is best served immediately, while it is still warm and flavorful. You can also store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Conclusion:
Roasted butternut squash is a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and it can be easily customized to suit your own taste preferences. Whether you like it sweet, savory, or spicy, there is a roasted butternut squash recipe out there for you.
