SAVORY PEAR, GORGONZOLA, AND BACON BREAD PUDDING

Savory Pear, Gorgonzola, and Bacon Bread Pudding image

This bread pudding isn't a typical dessert bread pudding. Instead it's a savory dish that makes a great side or a flavorful main dish. Use it anytime an adult macaroni and cheese would fit the meal, and you won't be disappointed. As a side note, this tastes even better as rewarmed leftovers than it does fresh out of the oven, so make enough to take for lunch tomorrow!

At the fruit market I found some wonderful pears and couldn't resist buying some. I got home and wanted to make a pear dessert, so I searched the 'Zaar and found a few recipes I liked, and as usual, had to mess them up and make my own! So thanks to Dancer (Recipe #80786) and TeraGram (Recipe #39011) for the inspiration, and also to my old faithful "Central Cookery Book" (an Australian/Tasmanian Icon). Also, my eggs were home-laid and all double yolkers, so you may want to use two whole eggs and two egg yolks, depending on your eggs.

4 pears - peeled, cored and sliced
2 cups heavy cream
1 pinch ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Use a variety of breads: Feel free to use a variety of breads in your bread pudding, such as white bread, wheat bread, or even croissants. This will give your bread pudding a more complex flavor and texture.
  • Add mix-ins: You can add a variety of mix-ins to your bread pudding, such as dried fruit, nuts, chocolate chips, or even bacon. Get creative and experiment with different flavors.
  • Use a flavorful custard mixture: The custard mixture is what gives bread pudding its rich and creamy flavor. Make sure to use a flavorful custard mixture, such as one that includes milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  • Bake the bread pudding until it is set: The bread pudding is done baking when it is set in the center. You can check this by inserting a toothpick into the center of the pudding. If the toothpick comes out clean, the pudding is done.

Conclusion:

Pear bread pudding is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its soft and creamy texture and its sweet and flavorful pears, pear bread pudding is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a dessert to impress your friends and family, give pear bread pudding a try. You won't be disappointed.
