PEAR NUT BREAD RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 can (16 oz) Bartlett pear halves
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
3 t baking powder
1 t salt
1/8 t allspice
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 large egg, beaten
2 t grated orange rind
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
2 T orange juice

Steps:

  • Drain pears, reserving syrup; reserve 1 pear half for topping. Process remaining pears in a blender or use an immersion blender, process until smooth; transfer to a 1-cup measuring cup. Add as much of the reserved pear syrup as needed to make 1 cup. Reserve remaining syrup for other use. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and allspice in large bowl. Mix pear puree, oil, egg and orange rind in medium bowl. Add to flour mixture; stir just until moistened. Fold in walnuts; batter will be stiff. Spoon batter into greased 8 x 4 inch loaf pan. Cut reserved pear half into 6 slices; arrange crosswise in a row on top of batter. Bake in preheated oven at 350 for 50-55 minutes or until wooden toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack, 5 minutes. In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar and as much of the orange juice as needed to make a thin, smooth glaze. Remove bread from pan; spoon glaze on top of bread. Cool completely on wire rack. Wrap bread in aluminum foil; let stand overnight before slicing.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe pears: Firm but ripe pears are best for baking. They should give slightly when pressed. Unripe pears will not be as flavorful and may not bake evenly.
  • Use fresh nuts: Fresh nuts will give your bread a better flavor and texture than stale nuts. If you don't have fresh nuts on hand, you can toast them in a skillet over medium heat until they are fragrant and golden brown.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the bread tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the bread until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean: This is the best way to ensure that the bread is cooked through.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing: This will help the bread to hold its shape and prevent it from crumbling.

Conclusion:

Pear Nut Bread is a delicious and versatile bread that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is also a great way to use up leftover pears. With its moist texture, sweet flavor, and crunchy nuts, Pear Nut Bread is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
